Videogames are not about 'working hard'. They're about 'having fun'. If you get a +5 sword drop and you find out you have to grind another day or two just to use it, that is not 'having fun'. :)

Well, maybe if you're masochistic...

depends, since you have this shiney new +5 it gives you a reason to "grind" which also gives you the chance of getting more drops, and the cycle repeats :P

So what if someone hands you a +5 sword of ultimate destruction when you start the game? You're allowed to use it because its about having fun?

Some sort of risk as opposed to unlimited reward is fundamental for the game's economy. This is best implemented with PvP with looting (other systems like armor degradation have never worked and only made the game annoying).

It's not fundamental to the game's economy. It's fundamental to PKers being better PKers while PvErs get worse and worse off for their efforts.

For someone to outfit their characters full of Bandit Fort armor and a weapon, it would take about 10 hours of grinding.

For someone to lose that equipment to a band of PKers camping them, it would take a few minutes. Probably. If they tried to run back to get their things. The equipment looted doesn't go into the game economy, it goes to their fellow PKer Bros to empower them. Pretending there's any other reason for wanting world-wide PvP with item drops is just dishonest.
